Can someone confirm this is also an issue with the new 9500? (I would bet it is, given it's the same visually)

If it is the case I will definitely move to a competitor that does support the productive layout, glad I noticed it in a youtube review and found this thread, no reviews mentioned it...

I just heard back from a contact within Dell that the report I submitted about this issue for internal escalation has been sent to an internal team to evaluate making a firmware change about this.  I don't have any more information beyond that such as timeframe, what model(s) might get the change even if it's approved, etc.  I've shared everything I know at this stage. Fingers crossed that the team realizes that this would be a no-brainer in terms of delivering a major win for users and Dell alike with no meaningful downside at all.

Hi, thank you for doing this. Would love to see any change in their policy about this.

Spot on, thats exactly what happened to me when my brand new XPS15 arrived yesterday; why can't I navigate anywhere I thought the keyboard was broken until I realised that the fn left/home, fn right/end has gone ... WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!

I then to my horror turned my laptop off when I wanted to delete something ... who in their stupidity would put a power button on the keyboard!

Keyboards have to stay consistent ... I use an older XPS15 for work and now i am going to have to somehow relearn muscle memory developing software onto two different layouts for the same computer!

I want to add my vote to this thread as well.

I own a new latitude and my old one had those fn key functions as well. Like many first it was confusing but then i loved it. Now with the new one they removed it and it annoyes me.

At least they made it possible to activate the F1-12 keys by default.

But in the spirit of this thread @Anonymous Please fix that. Make it opt in. So anyone who wants it can have it. Maybe sell stickers for that ^^ Or sell an additional keyboard. for the notebook not an external one.

Hi! Thank you for all your efforts! If you need anything to get this annoying issue fixed (like more service tags or upvotes), I'd be glad to help.

As a developer, having home/end as separate buttons up top is counterproductive. So far it seems Dell's devs don't eat their own dog food. Otherwise the BIOS update with additional mapping options would be there like next week after a product release.

I can only confirm this really annoying issue on my new Dell Vostro 5590. Almost to the point of returning it as I have to work on both older Dell with FN+arrows (going through exactly the same experience as other commenters here) and this new one where it doesn't work. Now I've spent over 2 hours on Google, Dell KB etc. before finding this thread, finally. That indicates how much we need it, Dell.

This is killing me. Having to keep jumping my hands around the keyboard just to navigate around a document is so frustrating! Maybe it works for some people, but surely with nothing else mapped to Fn-Left and Fn-Right it should be a no-brainer to add them back at least as an option in the BIOS?

Hello, I’m your Dell virtual assistant. I see you've opened a thread.

In order for me to review your system configuration, may I have the Service Tag / Express Service Code/ Order Number?

Refer the below link to find the Service Tag:

Virtual assistant, please get your flesh-and-bones masters to look at this. It's universal across all XPS 13 9300s so don't ask for my system configuration.

Hi There,

Could you please try this as below.

The ESC key in the top left of the keyboard has a small lock with "Fn" on it and this toggles the Fn lock on and off so that you can use your keys as Function keys or multi-function keys.

Hope this helps

@DELL-Cares : That is not the issue. Fn-Left and Fn-Right do nothing. On my previous XPS laptop (9560) Fn-Left was Home and Fn-Right was End.

This is not something that can be fixed with AutoHotKey or any other keyboard remapping software; as others have noted, Fn-Left and Fn-Right send nothing to the OS. This needs to be fixed at the BIOS level.

@DELL-Cares

Please read this whole topic, this is a serious downgrade for developers on the xps 13 series. It was a great productivity feature on previous laptops and now it is gone.

The fn + arrow right key had an 'end' command.

The fn + arrow left key had a 'home' command.

This whole topic is about asking if this can be returned. Please give this topic the attention it needs.
