Dell XPS 13 9310 Custom Power settings not working

I use my XPS mostly plugged in during the day and i would like to use the Custom power settings as they appear to be designed.

I.e. stop charging at 80% and dont restart charging unless the battery is below 60%

However when i set this and plug in my laptop it charges to 80% then keeps topping up the battery all day on and off.

I thought the idea is charge to 80% then work on AC power with the battery at idle all day.  If i come into work the next day with the battery at 70% nothing should happen. But if i come into work with the battery at 50% it charges back to 80%.

I found a workaround by using peak shift but this shouldnt be necessary unless i am missing a setting somewhere.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Hello,

As my laptop is also affected by this issue, I can provide information if needed.

All I can say now, is that it occurs intermittently when ressources (CPU) are needed and the root cause seems to be the same that for the flickering issue. Indeed, disabling "Turbo boost" in BIOS fix the issue, but it is not a persistent solution as we are supposed to be able to enable turbo boost without any inconvenient.

Thanks for helping us!

@Neil MTBThere is a thread about this problem here: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-13-9310-charge-light-blinks/td-p/7841376/ I would suggest you to "Me too" that issue and leave a comment there.

I have the same issue, it's probably (again) a firmware issue.

In my case, with values at 50 and 80%, I solved it by setting a different value (79%), and it worked for almost two months now, when I connect my laptop to the AC adapter it won't charge it until battery level falls below 50%, and it won't use the battery either (just as it is supposed to).

My suggestion is: try setting different values, maybe do it from your BIOS menu instead of the windows utility. Perhaps try resetting BIOS settings to *Default* (not user or factory settings) and then try with new custom charging values.

Hope it helps

Hello,

I have just installed new BIOS version (3.2.0), but blinking light issue is still there when Turbo Boost is enabled:

@Dell, could you please give us information about this issue. We are complaining about this issue for several months and there is still no fix. When is a fix supposed to be released?

Please, take my feedback into account and give us good news.

Regards,
