Dell XPS 13 9360 Battery Life
I have owned this Dell XPS 13 9360 for about 10 months and have no clue how all reviews and comments I've seen about battery life lasting 10+ hours can possibly be true due to my experience with it. I have never gotten more than 3:30 hrs with it and that is having the brightness down to 60-70%. I mostly do Google web browsing (4-10 tabs open at once) and Excel. I own the UHQ display version, which I know does less than the 1080P version but still consider the battery life not to be good. Check it out... got 50% left and only 1:49 remaining. It just recently went from Excellent health to Good health...but it is still doing the same times, I have never gotten more than 3:30 hours of use on battery. Am I doing something else wrong? Please someone enlighten me. Wish I could go a whole 6hr working day without having to recharge.

You won't get more than about four hours out of a charge -- not with the UHD display.

Thanks for your reply...I thought I had gotten a defective unit since I hear everyone was getting 8+ hours with the UHD. Do you have the same laptop and are experiencing similar results?

Maybe its just software issue (you got some power draining process running in the background). Consider resetting your device to factory state, run windows update, do not install nothing else than webbrowser and some security apps (firewall, antivirus - download form official site, not from setup files that you may have on you disk; or at least some script blocker like uMatrix for browser) and verify how long it will last. If more than previous it will mean that you found the issue if no - it might by crappy battery or some other hardware problem.
If you decide to test your device in that way: do not open any files, photos, apps that has been present on your drive before this reset. Do not connect any external devices, phone, usb-drives etc. (something may be infected and for test purposes it would be good idea to exclude/isolate such scenario).
You can also try to "reset battery memory" - discharge it until notebook won't turn on, charge it full, unplug the charger and repeat this process couple of times. If battery is constantly charged (i mean your AC charge even on 98%) it might forgot where min/max is (it less common nowadays since circuits are "smarter" and cells better, but might be worth a shot).

I completely agree with you. These affiliate websites just parrot the Dell propaganda with very little critical opinion. I literally have battery anxiety from before I sit down in the cafe to switch on the computer. I bought the 20k mA battery pack that increases the battery life, but that plus the computer battery usually only gives me less than 5 hours and all I'm doing is using a browser, Word, and Excel. Really nothing strenuous....
How can you trust the company if they sell you misinformation in order to get you to purchase it? I'm not buying Dell again...

I've had my 9360 for just over a year and regularly get 7+ hrs (constant wifi use, brightness at 50-60%).
If anyone still has these problems I recommend a few steps.
1. check the quality of your wifi signal and/or router as a bad signal or flaky router will cause significant network use and drain the battery
2. run the utility batteryinfoview (https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/battery_information_view.html) and take note of the battery health %. Mine after 10 months is 97.7%. if it's significantly less then you have a battery problem so try step 3.
3. Do a full drain and re-charge cycle mentioned above (drain down to between 5-15% but no lower, then charge up to greater than 90%)
If the efficiency doesn't improve significantly then get the battery replaced.
Even though I don't use the tool, the information presented here (http://batterycare.net/en/guide.html) is quite valid and useful. It's unfortunate that the Dell batteries don't support battery cycle counts though as this would be a better indicator of battery life.

Same issue as OP. Even new I could hardly sit through a full length movie or get more than 3-4 hours of light office work & browsing out of my Dell XPS 13 9350.
Added bonus: since a couple of weeks my battery started to swell up. Dell refuses to accept responsibility (i.e. replacing it for free under out-of-warranty goodwill terms). Conclusion for me: never again buying a Dell.

Hi, Battery tests on website are , most of the time, made with screen at 50% brightness.
At best websites are reporting 20+ hours for FHD model, 11+ for UHD one.
But I have to admit Dell's claim seems valid for me, as I can achieve 16-20 hours on my FHD model on each charge (no photo-editing or gaming! Just regular work which in my case means browser, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Important:
-Automatic contrast is disabled on my screen (CABC)
-Screen is color calibrated at 120 cd/m² brightness : I cannot handle anything higher, it just hurt my eyes ;-) (in a regular desk at work, not outside under direct sunlight)
-120cd/m² = 30% brightness

i bought Dell XPS 13 looking at the battery specs on their website, which shows monstrous backup of 18 hours, which is absolutely false. Dell has given all the wrong information and fooling the customers. Right from the day one in standby condition I didn't get more than 4 hours. I called the service centre which again was waste of time. Please make sure to tell all your friends and also foes not to buy DELL products. I kept my XPS 13 aside and gone for MacAir where I am getting around 10 hours of backup.

Battery estimates now are what EPA mileage estimates were about 20-30 years ago -- just that.
Most manufacturers test with screens at half-brightness and with the wifi OFF. You can safely divide the estimates by two to get a real-world benchmark. And if you're actively using the system with wifi, it'll cut the runtime even further down. So too will the UHD screen, which is easily the biggest power consumer in your system. So -- if Dell's estimate of 8 hours is what you saw, 3.5-4 is not all that bad.
I'm not defending how battery life is estimated -- just relaying what most real-world tests have shown.

Same problem here XPS 13 9360 UHD. From the beginning the battery run time was no more than 4 hours. The laptop is 10 months old.
Now the run time is lowered to 2.5 hours.
Brightness 50% and usual apps, web, office etc.
I will request battery replacement but from what I read here it is of no use ...

Under four hours is rubbish for light web browsing on a high-end machine claiming all-day battery life.
It appears there are some issues with Intel network drivers - Google it and you can see what needs switching off for better battery life. I believe they're 9D60 and 9D61, network controllers or similar, and power management needs to be turned off.
With power management activated on these drivers, my XPS (UHD) drops to between 2-4 hours of battery life. With them turned off, it jumps to 6-8 hours. Go figure.
Irritatingly, restarting the laptop resets the device settings so it goes back to **bleep** battery life again if you don't tweak them each time.
