Dell XPS13 9370 Thunderbolt not working

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS 13 9370 laptop and since recently my Thunderbolt ports are not working anymore. It could be since a new Windows update, driver update or BIOS update.

When connecting a Thunderbolt device like Dock, HDMI, USB-stick or whatsoever, the device is not recognized. Earlier I also got BSOD's (blue screen of death). After reinstalling my laptop the BSOD is gone, but every time I start my laptop het following message appears:

Dell.jpg- I uninstalled the Intel Thunderbolt application and driver, but it installs itself again

- I installed the newest version of the Thunderbolt driver --> does not help

- I removed the AS Media drivers / reinstalled --> does not help

- I installed/removed/installed the Realtek USB drivers --> does not help

- I tried upgrading the Thunderbolt firmware, that gives an error, see below:

Dell2.jpg

- I reinstalled Windows --> does not help.

Now I am lost and out of options. Does anyone recognize this problem and has any ideas?

Best,

Geert

This happens when there's a mixup of legacy and new (DCH) Windows 10 thunderbolt drivers.

I was able to fix it by removing the old one following this guide and then install the new one from here.

Good Luck

Hi, thanks for this reply. Good article.

It helped me so far that the message about uninstall Thunderbolt is gone, but whenever installing a new driver (I tried several suggested) gives me the result of Thunderbolt ports still not working (unknown USB device).

Going to the link of the Microsoft store shows DHC driver is installed anytime.

Do you have more suggestions?
