Do I need a new fan?
About a month ago, my fan started making a very loud and unpleasant noise when my computer is in heavier use. Because the sound did not go away, I tried opening it and cleaning out some of the dust from the fans about two weeks ago, but this has not helped. Do I need a new fan or does the problem lie elsewhere?

Most likely yes - you need to replace the fan (if there's more than one in the system be sure you know which one is noisy).
