Intel GPU 630 and Nvidia 1050 crashes apps and not working

Spent last two days researching. Lots of posts out there with the Intel 630 drivers hybrid with the Nvidia 1050 ones... reinstall windows, reinstall drivers, disabled the 630, re-enable, reinstall... at end of day all same outcome. Certain apps crash that uses the Nvidia GPU. Basic games, Blizzard Overwatch, Destiny, etc.. all slow and crashes, apps like Hitfim does not run... unless disabling one of two devices.

Ran stress test with Intel - works fine. Video test with Nvidia - hangs.. locks app...withh both enabled

Stress test with Nvidia hangs.

Disabled Intel, ran what tests were there for the Nvidia, it passed.. didnt have the wire or rendering (assumed it required the intel to be enabled?)...

XPS 9560 worked fine until recently... everything was fine until recently.. windows updates? Drivers conflicts? Broken GPU? Past warranty.. but nothing seemed to have changed.. laptop never leaves desk...

All forum posts states it up.. intel says Nvidia, Nvidia nothing, dell has posts.. and end of day it fails all Nvidia basic video tests. Right now just a great Chromebook without the GPUs working together properly.

any help appreciated... is it driver conflict or is the Nvidia actually busted?

Hello

Alter the factory restore i did the following ...
- Windows installed automaticly feature release 1803.
- I installed release 1809 manual.
- I installed all Dell updates (drivers and apps) Support Assist and Command Update suggested.

Windows autoupdate is still active, Updates from Dell are manual.

But there is a problem with the last Dell driver for nvidia (24.21.13.9793). It says that the OS version is not correct. Maybe because this driver was build for 1803 and not for 1809. I'm using 23.21.13.8934 at the moment.

Bye

Thank you for your message. I will be glad to assist you with this.

This seems to be driver conflict since the tests passed when the Intel card is disabled. This does not seem to be an issue with the hardware.

What is the version of Intel & NVidia driver installed?

What is the BIOS version installed?

Was there any recent Windows update or software changes made?

Tested video @ Bios and appears okay.

Windows v 1803 build 17134.407

Downgraded all drivers to the Dell versions -

Intel HD 630 - 23.20.16.4973

Nvidia - 23.21 13.9125

@ Nvidia Control Panel - It will not provide render and image example - hangs. (not responding) much like all other apps that require any rendering -

Furmark cannot run stress test - app does not run at all, it just opens then shuts down. GpuTest - (not responding) and hangs on any and all OpenGL tests.

All device drivers back to Dell standards:

Intel 630 - 23.20 16.4973

Nvidia - 23.21 13.9125

Windows 1803 Build 17134.407

Ran Furmark - app freezes (not responding) and exits on any OpenGL

Ran Testmark, GMark, even Triangle (all OpenGL) and all hangs (not responding) not running any of the tests

Video tested passed @ Bios.

Basically, it appears anything that involves rendering, OpenGL, app will freeze, hang or not function. Disabling one or another (Intel or Nvidia) make the lesser of the whole non functional.

Thank you so much

do you still have all the auto updates on like the dell auto update and windows updates ? They have any impact ?

Looks like factory restore it is for the next step

Hello

I have equal problems on a XPS 9570. Adobe LightRoom crashed permanently after it worked for several months without any problems. The only way to get it running was not using OpenGL on the nVidia card or only use the Intel 630. Maybe it was a problem using the the original nvidia/intel drivers. I could not solve the problem by installing the original Dell drivers.
I have done a factory restore now. Until now everything works fine.

I'm not sure if it is supported/save to use the manufacturers drivers instead of the Dell ones?

That did it. Thanks Marjue,  Pretty much was driver conflicts. Im still reinstalling but the original drivers allowed all OpenGL tests to function properly.

Now the trick is ... the future updates and conflicts :-)

Gotta love Windows ..

Another note

it does not install nvidia control panel so no advanced options to prioritize apps or control of what uses intel vs nvidia. I assume that’s why new updates that installed the control panel locks the app. Either or this hybrid thing is what it is. Everyone needs to be one happy family to work

@OldschoolNetware

Did I understand you right? You don't have the control panel now after the reset and clean install?
I have it! Do you have the green nVidia icon in the windows taskbar? Here you can start either the control panel or gforce experience. I can start this tool in the context menu (right click on desktop) too.

Could also be BIOS - lots of people are having GPU issues after a BIOS update from a few months ago on the 9570. It may also be an issue on older XPS models. The link below confirms it on the XPS 9570. I've now seen heaps of users complaining of poor performance. I would look at downloading the driver from the Nvidia site even though it isn't OEM. Dell is wayyy to slack at updating drivers and fixing serious performance issues with flagship products! I'm not sure if they actually care about their users. My 9570 is also still skipping keystrokes. Tech support is a lost cause and they usually have no idea. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Some-Dell-XPS-15-9570-laptops-may-have-a-BIOS-related-GPU-bug.355026.0.html

Hello Here is an additional information on Intel drivers for Windows 1809. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000031572/programs/intel-corporation.html Maybe this makes things worse on my machine when I tried to roll-back drivers before the final factory reset. Bye Marcus

Hi

Today i gave it a try and installed the newest nVidia Drivers over G-ForceExperience.
Bevore i only used the original Dell drivers after my factory reset.

from Dell Version:
Version: 23.21.13.8934
Datum: 17.05.2018

to nVidia Version:
Version: 25.21.14.1735
Datum: 12.12.2018

Everything is fine. No problems using openGL and the contolpanel is there.
