L702X hard drive replacement detectable but not able to access
Hello:
My 2011 XPS 17" L702X hard drive just died. It was the original and only hard drive in the laptop. I bought an SSD SATA hard drive (Samsung 870 QVO Series 2.5" 1TB SATA III) to replace it. The BIOS detects the hard drive. When trying to install Windows 7 (don't ask), it shows the hard drive and it's partition, but windows says cannot install and I need to look at the install log for details, how I'm supposed to do that at this point is unknown.
Any suggestions. The new drive when hooked into my new lighter laptop detects and reads/writes the drive fine.

Depending on the age of the Windows 7 install media, you may need a flash drive with the Intel RST driver in order to see the drive.
Download the Intel RST install mode driver from Intel, put it on a flash drive, pause the Windows 7 install at boot with the F6 key and install the driver. The other option would be to slipstream the RST driver into Windows 7 and make a custom boot disc.
