No video signal during POST is problematic
I've been using my XPS 9710 for almost a year now and for the most part I'm happy with the device. Unfortunately, there's one issue that may force me to switch the device though. My device has an RTX 3060 which I use in combination with Direct Output Mode because I have a GSync screen and also due to better performance. The issue here is that if Direct Output Mode is enabled, there's no video signal during POST (by design, confirmed by support). That's problematic because 1. I have passwords on my SSDs which means I have to type in my passwords blindly and 2. I often use live boot images.
I remember having the very same problem on one of my old desktop machines with an older graphics card. The manufacturer of the GPU solved it with a firmware update that made the GPU support UEFI. Apparently that's what the 3060 on my machine also lacks
I don't know if your engineers can solve this problem but it would be a pity if I had to switch to another machine because other than that the XPS is a great device.

Just for my info, how do you enable Direct Output Mode? I have a G-Sync monitor and just set it up in the Nvidia control panel.
It has been many years since video cards did not have the firmware available to be used with UEFI and Secure Boot.

I just realized you are referring to a Laptop GPU. So I know what Direct Output is because folks with VR headsets try the same thing but it doesn't work for them.
Have you ever watched the Task Manager and its GPU graph to see which Display adapter is doing the work and when. I think I remember seeing the discreet chip being used for external displays through the video output, but the two adapters do seem to operate together.
Keep in mind, there is quite a bit of difference between a discreet graphics card which has it own cooling apparatus and a single chip sitting on some type of heatsink. It may not be good to run your system as a Direct output mode.
Maybe the engineers will find you a solution..
