Notification from Dell Update: The system has been updated

New Dell XPS 15 running Windows 10.  I've had this computer for 4 days and I get a notification from Dell Update that the system has been updated every time I restart the system.  When I go into Dell Update, it indicates that the last update was 3 days ago.

1.  Is it normal that I get this notification upon every system restart?  Does it actually mean that the system is up-to-date?

2.  While Dell Update software does show what updates have been done to the system and the version number, it doesn't get any more info, e.g. data/time that update was applied, or summary notes of the update.

I can confirm the latest Dell Update Application for Win32 v3.1.1 fixed the problem where a pop-up notification from Dell Update stating "The system has been updated" would appear after every system restart on my Inspiron 15 5584 (good news) but like Pushinit, Ed0109 and others users posting in this thread have observed, the Last Check date is incorrect and dates back to December 2019 (bad news).  On my machine the Last Check date is always 17-Dec-2019, which is about the same date that I first noticed the buggy pop-up notifications with the previous v3.1.0.

Dell Update v3.1.0 was removed with Revo Uninstaller Free before the latest v3.1.1 (Package XT3FW, rel. 24-Feb-2020) was installed manually using the offline installer posted on the support page for my Inspiron 5584.  Further details are provided in my thread Inspiron 5584 - Dell Update Notification "The system has been updated" in the Insipron board.  My best guess is that's there's some stray registry entry or static data file (e.g., like the Service.log and/or Activity.log files contained in the hidden C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService\Log folder) that isn't refreshed correctly when Dell Update and/or SupportAssist checks for available updates.

Hi MarlinGolden39:

Have you tried running a scan for updates by clicking the blue Detect Drivers button on the Drivers & Downloads tab of your Inspiron 7390 2-in-1 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/product-support/product/inspiron-13-7390-2-in-1-laptop/drivers? That scan should automatically detect the Service Tag for your machine before it starts searching for available updates, but if the scan doesn't launch correctly refresh your browser tab, click the "Enter Service Tag to view details" link,  and enter your Service Tag manually before starting the scan.

That won't tell you anything if your system is already fully patched, but I posted in my thread Inspiron 5584 - Dell Update Notification "The system has been updated" that this online scan finds one urgent update for my system (the Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS v1.9.2, released 27-Feb-2020), while SupportAssist v3.4.1.49 and the latest Dell Update Application for Win32 v3.1.1 (which says the Last Check date was 17-Dec-2019) both report "No Available Updates".

@lmacri

Thanks for the suggestion.  I saw your post over on the other board and clicked the blue button.  I just did that again and got the same answer "No driver updates found..."

Everything is telling me I have no updates, so I guess I don't.

Hi,

Just go to this DELL Update Application page:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=9fx1m&oscode=wt64a&productcode=alienware-17-r3&lwp=rt

Scroll down the page to the link "Compatible Systems" to confirm your model laptop is compatible, then scroll back up again to the "Download File" link. That will update your Dell Update application to the 3.1.1 version. NOTE: You'll need to UNINSTALL your previous version of the Dell Update Application before you can fully install the new 3.1.1 version.

I haven't had any random update notifications since installing the newer version 2 days ago, but the dates for "Last Check" and "Last Update" are still showing incorrectly. At least the random notifications have stopped

I hate that crap SO MUCH!

It's bad enough that Windows gives us updates with pre-warning.

Dell says "This laptop belongs to Dell, not you!"  Random updates and reboots.

Little messages saying "Send Dell Money!"

I went into msconfig and turned off everything that starts with "Dell".

I am so relieved, everyone with Dell should do this.
