Optiarc DVD + -RW AD 7717H

Question

My computer says the driver is updated but when I insert a DVD it does not recognize or play it on any platform. I can hear the mechanism start up but then it stops and does nothing.  How do I fix this issue?

Yes, it recognizes a CD and asks what action to take, but nothing with a DVD. My system is XPS L502X, x64 based processor running Windows 10

Will the drive recognize a CD? What model system? What version of Windows?

It likely means the DVD laser (which is separate from the CD laser) is toast. The most cost-effective way to proceed is to replace the drive. They're well under $50.
