Random Black Screen issue on XPS 13 9310
Many people, including me, having random "Black Screen" issues on their new 9310s whereby the display turns off for 5-10 seconds while they are using the system (so not Standby).
Please see following posts:

Is this a driver/firmware/BIOS or hardware issue?
All drivers and firmware are up to dat on my system as of 12/18/2020

Here is the message that I sent to Dell this evening:
Dear Sir/Ma'am,
Thank you for the response. What is the telephone number of the Customer Support Team? This is a brand new computer and I want either a full refund or this fixed. I have done all that you have recommended, but the screen STILL goes black—in fact, it just did it again while responding to your email. This should NOT be happening on a brand new computer that has never been used, dropped, bumped or otherwise mishandled. I am completely dissatisfied with this computer and the rampant black screen issue. Please provide me with the Customer Support Team telephone number and email address.
Thanks,
I am truly dismayed that Dell sold me this computer knowing there is an issue with black screens. I am sure there are many who paid much more that me, but $2,000 is a lot on retiree income.

I just received my dell xps 13 9310 yesterday, and now bumped into this issue recently, currently I'm following the previous suggestions on lowering the refresh rate, but I'm not quite satisfied with this. Is there any solution to this problem from dell itself? This is quite a disappointment since the laptop's price is quite high (nearly RM8K) to have problem like this in 2 days.

Previously with lower refresh rate (48Hz) able to fix the issue. Now I updated to latest driver 27.20.100.9126 and change back refresh rate to 60Hz. This new driver seems like fixed the black screen issue (I also updated to latest windows update). But this is just few hours usage. I will continue to use it with 60Hz and see the issues got happened again.

I would also make sure to update the BIOS (new one released this week). The Dell Command Update program 4.0 automatically checks and updates this and drivers and utilities (though I had to first uninstall the old Dell update program the laptop came with, and for good measure all the bundled Dell programs).

If possible, it would be great to get more confirmations that this issue has gone away with driver updates. I just finished the return, but I would want to rebuy it if this problem is confirmed fixed. Nothing in the release notes of the latest driver update (27.20.100.9126) indicates that they addressed this problem, but some of you seem to say it has gone away with this update?
Thanks!

@rdog2020 just proceed with the return process. i'm also in the process of returning the product. I have lost my confidence and trust with Dell. My xps also have this kinda problem.

I'm also having the same black screen issues. I bought this laptop to use for grad school, and received it in mid-December. Since I'm on break, I've only used it a handful of times, but without fail, every time I'm using it, the black screen comes up at least once. In fact, it came up while typing this out. I need a solution so that I can use this laptop without problems. If not, I'll have to return it and find another laptop that will better suite my needs which is unfortunate because I have always used Dell without problems in the past.

Updating the drivers helps but does NOT solve the problem.
Even using the 27.20.100.9126 Intel driver, the screen goes to black after a period of time overnight and won't turn back on except by doing a forced hard reboot using the power button.

@JustNice Note that the updated generic Intel display driver 27.20.100.9126 (from 12/23/2020) does NOT solve the problem, though it may reduce occurrences.

Intel just released a new driver yesterday (but dated 1/8/2021), version 27.20.100.9168.
I'll try it and see if this driver resolves the issue; but as of now, the screen blanking problem still occurs (forcing a hard reboot), though infrequently.

Hi, I've also bought a new 9310 2-in-1 touchscreen, received December 2020, and have the exact same problem with the screen randomly going black.
One observation not mentioned elsewhere is that while the screen display does not return in response to any keyboard input, if I touch the touch screen the display immediately returns. As such it's become an annoyance only.
As this time I'm just following this thread and waiting for a fix.
Thanks
