TB16 Firmware upgrade

Hi,

i am using a xps 15 9650 with two tb16s. Now we need the tb16 to work with macs, which is horrible. i got it to working tbunlocker (since apple apparently is okay just to randomly block products not to their liking) but video does not. i have been advised to update the firmware of the tb16s, but that is what just wont work. Now running the firmware update program for 1.0.0 works - i think. 1.0.2 gives me the "Could not find valid Policy or Resource Payload" error and 1.0.4 gives me ...just nothing. i double click it, something happens (mouse "busy" symbol) for a sec or two and then nothing. I called dell, they offered me to pay 58€ to sort this out which is just plain ridiculous. They offer firmware upgrades that wont work. Now I did do a google search on this and found that a lot of people have this problem - but I did not find a working solution. 1.0.2 apparently is enough to get hdmi capabilites for mac, which is fine with me, but still. I bought dell to get something of a quality vendor, and they cant even supply working firmware upgrades - which does make me wonder why they think people should buy their products, they are quite expensive compared to the rest. but anywho. does someone have an idea how to sort this? operating windows 10 of course. not sure what other information could be relevant. ah. yes. laptop is fully upgraded driver wise, which also was a big pain, the build in update program just stopped working and so did all the new ones offered by dell until i found i have to use one of the two offered (command update) and not just click install but unpack first. so, yeah, quality work right there as well. but that is sorted out and works - currently sorry for the raging undertone, but these things are driving me insane. such an unnecessary loss of time and effort...

THanks in advance!

edit: i just found that the execution of these programs can be logged. so the 1.0.2 upgrade gives me the error (XXX is my username):

Executing: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\Dell\TBTSDK.exe -y -oC:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\Dell
ERROR: CreateProcess FAILED

the 1.0.4 just again doesnt do anything, log file is blank after the entry that its being run.

Alright. After trying A LOT to solve this, some approaches I probably forgot but including altering bios settings, usb boot device, comability modes, command line operation and reading litterally every google hit there is on the subject, what has worked for me is to create a new admin account and use that to update. No problems with the 1.0.4 updater - did not bother with the 1.0.2.

Thanks dell, for no help at all on this.

Yes, and as the dell bot now figured out, I do not have warranty any more. So I am not entitled to working bug fixes?

Sorry to piggyback, but you mentioned using Two TB16. (I assume chained via USB-C)

Does that give you capability for 4 more monitors?
