XPS 13 7390 Touchpad stops working every few seconds

I've had this laptop for about 6 months and the touchpad has never worked properly. Its fine when I am using it. However if you stop using it for about 5 seconds and then try to use it again, it is completely dead. After touching it for about 2 seconds it "turns on" again and you can use it as usual again. But if you wait 5 seconds, it will go into "sleep" mode again. I have reinstalled the drivers several times, even reinstalled Windows 10 but the issue remains. It is starting to drive med mad, I always have to carry an external mouse because the stupid touchpad is not working properly. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

I had similar problems with both the touch pad and external mouse, then i ran support assist which made me download a bunch of drivers and bios updates, since then the problem seems to be fix on both the touch pad and external mouse... This was getting real ridiculous i couldn't use my brand new laptop. Sometimes the cursor will freeze for half a second and then work fine for the whole day... Not perfect but way better than when i unboxed the laptop which is 1 month old...

I have an XPS 13 9365 (yes a little old) and have had this issue since owning the laptop. After a bios update it disappears for a bit and comes back. Sometimes I uninstall and reinstall the HID drivers in device manager and it cures the issue. I never really tracked down the issue. I have had the issue in most every windows 10 build and the latest windows 10 pre-release. I'm sure they share the same basic driver framework/files for the HID compliant device that is the touchpad.

The issue is exactly as the OP: after 5 seconds of no-use, it "goes to sleep" and takes a second or two to "wake up" and at that point the cursor has jumped somewhere. The issues can be re-created very easily.

To add, I just applied the temp fix I use by just flashing the bios with the same bios from the support page (as there are no new updates) for my XPS 13 9365 (XPS_13_9365_2_13_0). After that, I cannot recreate the problem. I have done this multiple times to get going through the years.

There must be something like a buffer or nvram that gets cleared from me doing this. Hopefully it's solvable easily in software!

My XPS 13 7390 from day one has always had touchpad problems. the first was uninitiated fast scrolling. Extensive search for solutions provided none.  The latest is the click mechanism.  It's starting not to work.  I click.  Nothing happens.  I click again and so one.  It's only going to get worse.  This is after less than 4 months of use.  This product is a LEMON.  BTW i also bought a carrying case advertised with the laptop, and the laptop doesn't fit in it.

I found this post in my searches for a similar issue.  I recommend this thread...

Disabling power savings for I2C devices seems to fix it.  It appears it turns off the touch pad too quickly and it's too slow to wake up so not letting it sleep is the only way it's able to work normally.
