XPS 13 9305 - LCD Failure lights with display and also when disconnected

Hi guys, I've got a friend's XPS 13 come in to my workshop after they knocked it off a counter. Since the incident, I've been told the screen just doesn't come on at all. It just exhibits 2 amber LEDs followed by 7 white LEDs repeatedly until turned off. I've disconnected the battery and then proceeded to fully disconnect the screen for the purpose of getting part numbers for the panel which I have.

My only concern is that despite removing the screen from the unit and powering back up without it, is that the blinking LEDs continue as they did before. How likely in this situation is it a mainboard issue than a LCD panel/cable?

Many thanks for anyone's input!

The system will halt on POST unless a screen is recognized.  Did you try running a screen self-test (with the screen connected to the system, hold the D key through powerup).  You should see a series of screen test images.  If you do, the screen is OK and the problem is elsewhere (if the connection to the mainboard is solid, it's likely the mainboard itself that's damaged).
