XPS 13 9350 AC adaptor not recognised

Question

Hi, my original charger suddenly failed so I bought a replacement (original Dell) 45w charger. It powers the computer perfectly but the startup screen has the message that it's not recognised and the battery won't charge. The front light (under the toughpad) comes on for a few seconds then goes off. The battery is about 9 months old (original one and was/is absolutely fine) but now has 0% charge. I've tried with another (original) Dell charger and no difference. Other than this issue the computer is excellent, works perfectly & I'm very happy with it. I can't update the BIOS as the battery needs at least 10% charge. I've tried disconnecting the main battery and holding the power battery down to no effect and the internal charger port seems secure. Any suggestions??

I could buy a USB C charger if all else fails but I'm not sure which is the correct one (I'm in the UK)

It may be that the adapter wattage is lower than the OEM adapter (which was probably 65W as seen here). Other than that usually 3 things affect the ability to recognize the adapter. Either a non-Dell adapter, a problem in the DC jack, or the motherboard. Try a reset though as it may help. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.

Hi & thanks for the reply, I thought the original charger was 45W but maybe I'm mistaken (I no longer have it). I've tried power resetting & no luck. Run diagnostics and all OK other than this problem!

I ended up buying a Dell 65W USB C charger and using the Thunderbolt port & the battery charging normally again.....
