XPS 13 9360, sleep, battery draining

I just bought an xps 9360 and I'm really surpised to see how much battery the sleep mode consume. If I put it on sleep mode for 24 hours it consume something like 16% battery what found too high (especially compare to others ultrabooks). I searched a solution on the web and I saw that the sleep mode is "connected" and I can't disable it. Is there any way to have a normal sleep mode which don't consume too much battery ?

Thanks for your answers.

It sounds like the system uses Modern Standby.  The connected means that while in that low power mode, the systems is supposed to stay connected to the network so certain functions can happen.

You can tell the system to not stay connected when on battery but you need to go into the advanced power settings and look for the hibernation settings.  Make sure it is set to hibernate after some appropriate time, like 60 minutes.  At that time it should "Doze to hibernate" and stop the battery drain.

This video is older but still informative.  Understanding the system does not actually sleep and how it should work may help.

Hi G3rb,

Thanks for posting.  Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.

Sleep mode does drain the battery as it is not meant to be a substitute for powering off the computer for extended periods of time.  Sleep mode is primarily just for short periods.

However, you can make adjustments to the power settings.

You can follow the steps below on how to save more energy during sleep mode:

1. Type Power Options in the search bar.

2.  You click Change plan settings depending in your Preferred plans.

3.  Click Changed advanced power settings.

4.  Click Sleep.

5. Choose the Power saver on the drop down menu.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Yes "Hibernate After" an hour or two is a good concept. Except that with Dell you must be cautious if it works properly. In some instances, the switchover happens to fail, causing the laptop to wake instead, possibly in one's backpack where it gets super hot. This likely happens just to some of us, but be careful if you choose to turn this on.

ok, thanks a lot for your answers. I will do that the hybernate mode seems to be a good solution. I was just a bit afraid about an excessive use of my ssd ?

Thanks

Thanks, I saw the video but the options "On battery power, stay connected to Wi-Fi while asleep" and "When plugged in, stay connected to Wi-Fi while asleep" needed to activate the "disconnected standby" mode are not available on my computer. Also the option in advanced settings / power management where I would set the time after I will enter to hybernate mode when he is in connected standby are not available too.

I have only the "classical" options. I can set when the sleep and hybernate mode will be activated. (under "sleep" I have both sleep and hybernate options.)

I just want to go into hybernate mode something like 30 minutes after lid is closed (like in the video). Is it possible on this machines ??

Thanks

If you have not made a revision to your registry then I am still being confused by how different systems work.  I could swear folks with the 9360 said they had modern standby...  The way I found out my 9365 had modern standby was iTunes would stop playing when the display turned off.

There are also some videos on the same site which talk about investigating power issues.  The command powercfg may have reports which could help.  Open and Admin command prompt and type powercfg /? to see the switches.  Things like batteryreport or sleepstudy may yield some info.
