XPS 15 2019 overheating - fire hazard?

Just bought a new XPS 15 2019 and having a problem with it sleeping/shutting down. A few times I thought it odd but last night I shut it down, waited till it powered off before closing the screen, put it in my laptop bag and 30 minutes later the fans where running full speed and the laptop was too hot too touch. A serious fire hazard and I am afraid this brand new machine, which wasn't cheap, could end up or could be damaged

This is a brand new machine and it never seems to be fully shut off. Fan was spinning crazy fast and I could barely touch the laptop. Hoping it hasn't been damaged in any way contacted Dell, hoping they will get back with a solution soon.
