XPS 15 7590: SSD boot sector damaged
My XPS 15 ran out of battery, when I tried to start it again, I got an error saying that there are no bootable devices available. After rebooting 3 times, the OS Recovery tool came up as configured in the bios. I ran the repairs it suggested, it said if the problem persists, I should run it again, that's what I did but it did not change anything.
I used a regular Win10 setup USB-Stick to access the hard drive and copy all the data that has not been backed up - no problems at all. I did not install Windows, just pressed Shift+F10 to access the console. Also tried to repair the boot sector from the installers repair mode, but that did not work neither.
However, the Auto OS Recovery does not come up any more, no matter what is configured in the bios. I would like to either reset the notebook to its factory state or get it to boot again. Any suggestions on how to achieve this? I wonder if I should just copy the boot sector from a similar machine (using dd)? I happen to have an identical machine, but that one has bitlocker enabled, guess that won't work then. (The one that failed does not run bitlocker.)
But before I start an experiment like that, is there an easier solution that gets the machine up & running again?
Also ran the buildt-in SupportAssist diagnostics, SSD did not show any signs of malfunction.
