XPS 15 7590 unable to undervolt

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me!
Just got my XPS form repair, had motherboard replaced.

I am unable to downgrade BIOS below 1.6! if I install 1.5 or 1.4 BIOS install, laptop reboot and come back to 1.6 version.

I the moment my issue is that system fan is on 90% of the time and is really annoying.

I have tried undervolting with  ThrottleStop but this doesnt seems to change any voltage.

I will appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks

How about providing a solution for this to all XPS 15 consumers. Many of us buy this expensive product with the intention of running it with an undervolt.

We shouldn’t have to revert back to old BIOS versions for a simple undervolt which is arguably essential for this product.

Hey @KinSol ,

Install Dell Power Manager and try different Thermal management settings.

also what I did with mine laptop, i have re-pasted CPU and GPU, also i have put cooling thermal pads on almost all components ( SSD, RAM and all power regulators\ controllers and so on).

I just bought this laptop with the intention of undervolting it. @Anonymous Should I go ahead and return it or are you intending to provide a solution?

There is no solution that allows under-volting.  Systems with the latest firmware from Intel have that option blocked (and note that all 10th generation CPUs are locked from undervolting by design).

We are now on bios version 1.8.1 and we still cant undervolt. Dell, PLEASE, FIX THIS. OMG, YOU ARE TURNING INTO APPLE.

I revert BIOS back to 1.5, did factory reset, disabled BIOS update in UEFI inside security tab. Now I can undervolt again. It helps a lot. Used to be quite warm when idling, now it is is much better.

I don't know which BIOS version my xps 15 7590 came with, but it went to the latest 1.9.1 automatically (through windows updates I guess), then I found out that I can't under volt the cpu! , I tried many things like for example the one you said, I reverted the BIOS back to 1.5, did factory reset, but no luck, the under volt option was still disabled in Throttle Stop and Intel XTU, If anyone else knows what I can do to under volt I will appreciate the help.

Same, they now block you when you downgrade the BIOS to 1.5. My fans are on all the time now too even when I only have chrome open its stunning and ridiculous for a $2500 machine. Can't play games anymore and takes a beating when I'm using zoom. I will be selling this garbage and buying the M1 15'"Macbook with the proceeds when it comes out this year.

I also downgraded from bios 1.9.1 to 1.5, but undervolting is still not possible.

@Anonymous: FIX THIS. Battery performance is absolutly unacceptable with the standard settings.
