XPS 15 9560 4K screen, i1Display Pro profile ignored

I have problems using X-rite's  i1Display Pro to create a profile. I find that whilst the profile is created, saved and applied 'perfectly' (see below) within X-rite's  i1 Profiler software, as soon as I unplug the colorimeter from the laptop, the profile is quite clearly ignored and the display changes drastically.  In subsequent use, the profile (which is set correctly in Windows Color Management as the default profile) is obviously not being applied.

Re: 'perfect':  this is when comparing -- using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop -- with the display on a profiled Eizo CG243 on a desktop PC and also with prints.

I have also profiled using DUCCS (Dell Ultrasharp Calibration tool) and DPC (Dell's Premier Color app) with the i1 Display Pro and found problems here too; the profile was not being used after having been created successfully.  Following advice elsewhere,  I uninstalled both DUCCS and DPC before using i1 Profiler as described above and all software (and the laptop) are up-to-date as far as I can establish.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Update and problem solved !

For the sake of anyone else landing here with this, or a similar, problem,  the solution is described here:  http://www.pusztaiphoto.com/articles/colormgmt/win7/  with supplementary information here:  https://www.xrite.com/service-support/monitorprofileunloadingonwindows7windows8windows10

The problem seems to be that Windows 10 does not actually load the colour profile specified in Control Panel > Color Management > Devices and has to be 'coaxed' into doing so.  That is why some profiling software installs a profile loader utility (for DUCS, it's K-loader).

For the record also, Dell Premier Color (DPC) on its own does a reasonable job of providing accurate colours albeit with only two useable colour temperatures: 5000K and 6500K.  But if DPC is present with other profiling software I think things get confused - which one is in charge of the temperature?  Better then to uninstall DPC and follow the procedure given in pusztaiphoto's solution above.
