XPS 15-9570 Does not Recognize Dell U2412Mb Monitor
My XPS 15-9570 laptop is working fine with TV and ASUS monitor but it does not recognize the Dell U2412Mb monitor. I used the same cable (DVI to HDMI) for ASUS monitor and Dell U2412Mb monitor.
The Dell U2412Mb monitor is working fine with all other laptops in my house (6 laptops total) with the same cable (DVI to HDMI)
What is the problem? Why Dell xps laptop is not compatible with Dell monitor? (while all other combinations have no problems)
Thank you for your responses.

The following page should help. In it the OP was told by Dell tech support that the 9570 does not like DVI outputs.

Thank you JOcean and jphughan for your interesting information.
I have also tried with display-port cable but my XPS still does not work with the U2412Mb monitor.
The problem is solved by puting a repeater in a series with HDMI cable (I absolutely don't know why).

Ok, in addition to the post above I have one theory as to what may be going on. The XPS 15 9570 is the first XPS 15 with HDMI 2.0. The Intel GPU doesn’t natively support HDMI 2.0, so the way it’s implemented is that a DisplayPort channel from the GPU is sent to an LSPCON converter chip, so maybe that’s the reason DVI doesn’t work? Again, given that the signals are electrically compatible I still would have expected this setup to work despite that chip, but maybe there’s some weird issue there.

HDMI up to 1920x1200 and single-link DVI are electrically compatible, so there actually isn’t a conversion at all; it’s just a pin remap, so I’m surprised that this isn’t working despite having successfully tested everything else with other systems and having tested other display/TVs with the XPS. Still, if the display does in fact have an HDMI input, I agree it’s worth testing a regular HDMI connection. If your display’s HDMI input is currently being used by another source but the HDMI test with the XPS works, can that other source use the HDMI to DVI cable with the display?
I can’t account for why your current setup doesn’t work, though. I’ve never had an HDMI to DVI cable not work as long as the resolution was 1920x1200 or less. Then again, there was an issue recently reported here and acknowledged by Dell in a KB where the XPS 13 9350’s USB-C display output doesn’t work with Dell’s own USB-C displays, even though the XPS’s USB-C output works with other USB-C displays and the Dell USB-C displays work with other USB-C sources. Unfortunately Dell didn’t describe the underlying cause or offer a fix other than “Use one of our docks”. So apparently standards aren’t always as standardized as one would hope.

Glad you found a solution, but a DisplayPort to HDMI cable was never going to work. Those can only be used to connect a DisplayPort source to an HDMI input on a display. You can't use it to connect an HDMI source to a DisplayPort input on a display. A USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to DisplayPort cable would probably work though, if you didn't need the USB-C port on the XPS for some other purpose.

Could you share what kind repeater is it? I'm have the same problem and it would be great if a repeater fixes it.
Thanks!

I have same issue with my new XPS 15 9570 but with HP W2207 monitor HDM to VI-D (DL). I originally thought it was going to be a setup/config issues between the two graphic chips/drives or lastly a driver update. Nope.
Did a lot of trouble shooting first before contacting Dell Primmum support to log a formal ticket . I encourage everyone to log a ticket and try and get these tickets cross-referenced hence my ticket/case no.
I asked if Dell had received another tickets like or similar to mine and I was told NO. Just the beginning of my disappointment with a $3K purchase. The long and the short of the story is Dell say HDMI port 100% if it works HDMI to HDMI, or if I'm not using Dell Monitor or adaptor...arhhh NO!
After two MB replacements a lot of wasted time waiting for said MB replacements (first time wrong revision numbers were sent to dell tech) and no real diagnostics it was exclaimed there must be something wrong with my cable and or monitor as it work HDMI to HDMI TV. I wanted to jump through the telephone and explain some Vulcan logic my tech support friend at the time. The short story is after what I consider some very poor technical support and brilliant time wasting on dell part my request for a full refund was finally granted some weeks later and now I get to wait more weeks for the pickup and my money back.
Note worthy: It seem there is a MB REV3 (mine Rev 2) with new/different screw mount points for the HeatSink. I know this because a REV 3 MB replacement was sent out without corresponding heatsink and why my initial HW fix didn't complete. Perhaps there are other differences?
For those that like numbers and full story here are my details...
· Win 10 Pro (1803 -17134.472).
· Intel UHD Graphic 630 (2018 - 24.20.100.6287)
· Dell XPS 15 9570 – 40DWJR2 BIOS 1.6.0 (Now 1.7.0)
Unfortunately the external monitor wasn’t automatically detected and required manual prompting before the laptop correctly detected and identified the make and model of the external display HP W2207. However the monitor failed to receive graphic output and eventually went into sleep mode. I check the cable for correct connection and manually set the monitor input channel to DVI-D but still no success. I then considered a resolution mismatch with the external monitors capability and manually set the graphic output to its lowest output (800x600x60hz) as well as the monitors default (1680x150x60hz) all with negative results. I also tested other low resolutions but none worked.
I then decide to check the monitor and cable was still working correctly (using HDMI->DVI-D cable connected) by testing them using two other HDMI output devices.
· ASUS Motherboard P8Z68 with HDMI IntelGraphics HD 3000 HDMI
· Sony UBP-X700 (4K Blueray) with HDMI 2.0
Both devices/computers auto detected and outputted graphic display to the HP W2207 monitor using the attached HDMI->DVI-D (DL) cable. This was witnessed by your on site tech engineer when they came to replace a suspected faulty motherboard but was unable to complete the swap out due incompatible supplied parts.
So now having just proven the HP W2207 external monitor using the Amazon HDMI->DVI-D (DL) cable was still working (auto detected and displaying output at a number of resolutions) I reconnected the Dell XPS 15 and began looking for newer drivers as the XPS 15 didn’t appear to have a damaged HDMI port as proven when it was connected to a Samsung TV using HDMI->HDMI cable.
I then found that Intel had a newer driver than dell X.X.X.6471 vs dells latest x.x.x.6287.
However I was unable to install this driver due to some non OEM driver notice/error.
Dells tech support requested a MB swap out…. when that failed (eventually) the issues was with my hardware/software not the XPS 15 9570.

Hey can you please tell me if you were able to get the repeater and what repeater is needed? I too cannot get my dell to hook to a dell monitor.... amazingly I can hook to a 3rd party monitor with no issues using the hdmi cables. Thanks

Well this is an example of a repeater, although I don't know if this would solve this specific issue that isn't really supposed to exist in the first place, since an HDMI to DVI cable should be working fine for that display's 1920x1200 resolution. However, if you're not using your USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port for any other device at the moment, another option would be to get a USB-C to DisplayPort cable instead, like this one. I use that cable with my Latitude 7480 to drive dual Dell U2717D QHD displays that are daisy-chained together and it works perfectly.

A repeater worked for me. HDMI out from laptop via 1 foot HDMI cable to repeater to hdmi to dvi cable with dvi connected to the monitor. It didn't work at first so I switched around the repeater and it worked. The referenced amazon link from the other poster shows the right and wrong way to connect the repeater. Hope that helps

@dellxps-user USB-C to DisplayPort isn’t working? Are you connecting the USB-C cable directly to the system, without any sort of dock or dongle involved? That should absolutely work, and unlike the HDMI to DVI issue, I haven’t seen any other reports of the 9570 having problems with USB-C video output. If even that isn’t working, try testing with another DisplayPort-capable display model if possible just to rule out a cable issue, because if the cable is good, chances are there’s a hardware issue with your 9570. The only driver you need for USB-C video output is the standard Intel Graphics driver, and USB-C outputs native DisplayPort, so that’s a simple scenario.
