XPS 15-9570, Headset jack not working

Whenever I boot up the machine, the headset jack won't function. Speakers work just fine. I've run the standard Dell diagnostics and found no anomalies. When I uninstall the Realtek audio driver and install the latest version, the jack becomes functional again. If I restart, the jack is dead again.

I was having this same issue with my XPS 9570.  After you reinstall the new Realtek HD Audio Driver from the Dell website (remember it takes TWO restarts - one restart to uninstall the current driver, then another to install the new driver), make sure you Enable the Waves MaxxAudio Service Application via Task Manager (or via the Settings app):

  1.  Open Task Manager

  2.  Navigate to the "Startup" tab

  3.  Scroll down to "Waves MaxxAudio Service Application" - right-click on it and then select "Enable"

  4.  Restart your computer and it should work now.

You can also do this via the Settings app:

  1.  Open "Settings"

  2.  Click on "Apps", then navigate to "Startup" on the left-side panel

  3.  Find "Waves MaxxAudio Service Application" and move the slider to "On"

  4.  Restart your computer and it should work now.

Cheers.

Thank you Jesse. I appreciate the references and willingness to go further with me. I'd taken most of the steps in the articles already but without luck.

But jman985... baby you hit the nail on the head. Your advice fixed things immediately. Many thanks!

If you don't have wavemax. It's a Windows 10 app (thru store). Read this for install: https://www.dell.com/support/home/nl/nl/nlbsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=r70v3

from site: (This package doesn't include full application for customers to install Waves MaxxAudio apllcation on their systems directly. It will guide customers link to the Windows Store to download the the application)

After installing the app, and connecting headphone, you get a pop-up: headphone or speakers.

This is very helpful, it seems like it greatly alleviates the issue. However, there is no automatic switching yet; an annoying pop-up shows up asking to select on the newer choice I made. I am still experimenting but so far this has been a good help. Thanks

I'm having the same issue. Firstly, it did not work at all but after following some words of wisdom here and reinstalling Realtek driver it worked. Now, as soon as I plug the headset out, it won't work again.

Any help from anyone in the community is very much appreciated. Thanks

(this laptop is nice but it has given me the maximum trouble and challenges so far).

My Brand new XPS 9570 is also experiencing this bug. I understand that this bug is present in quite a few models of laptop and has been present for up to two years.

What has been done about this Dell?

This doesn't fix the issue. it mearly resets the audio to use the connected headphones/speaker depending on if there is a plug present as the time of reboot. if you then unplug the headphones, the speaker will not re engage.

RE: XPS 15 9560 does not recognize headphones plugged in

I have got the same problem. The solution is easy, just go to your task manager-- startup, find HD Audio Background Process & Realtek HD Audio Manager, disable them and restart your XPS 15, problem fixed then.  Hope this will help you out as I have tried almost all the way posted on forum like updating the driver or clean install the win10, finally find the problem is about these 2 apps.

I got the same problem. :-(
Is there any solution to this?

All of these solutions do not work for me. Headphone is working just fine on another device and speakers also work. It just will not detect anything in headphone jack.

Worst laptop ever (XPS 15 9520), battery lasts only a few hours, lots of BSOD's, webcam and now this. Sorry for this, but I feel a little frustrated.
