XPS 15 9570 Sleep Issue is back with Windows 10 2004
No secret that the XPS 9570 has some serious issues due to the implementation of modern standby, namely that is will randomly wake, draining the battery and if packed in a bag, turn into a cooker.
After 6 months of waiting for Dell to issue a BIOS fix (something it still hasn't done 2 years later), I went down the route of disabling modern standby in the registry and that along with a clean install and replacement of the killer wifi card, got be a 'relatively' stable system that would sleep and stay sleeping until I WOKE IT.
All was fine until a few days ago when Microsoft dropped another one of their amazing updates that always seem to update very little and instead bring misery to anyone who is unfortunate enough to be in the receiving end of one of their 'bugs'. So it was my turn .... modern standby seems to be back with a vengeance and this time not only cant you disable it, the issue is not just about my system waking, it is now crashing on sleep.
I had been following this post, where the sleep issue was first raised many moons ago - https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-9570-BIOS-1-3-0-sleep-mode-gone/td-p/6131926
Ironically just last week the thread was marked as 'solved' with the solution being to edit the registry and disable modern standby ..... well DELL .... now what? MS has removed that from the registry and from what I am reading on other forums, there is no way to disable it.
Is anyone else with the 9570 experiencing this new issue with Windows 10 2004 ?
Dell .... please, please, please can you fix this laptop. Its never worked right, is no secret is has a problem with sleep and I've been fine with the workaround, but now what?

I can only tell my experience ..... after a few failed attempts at replacing the motherboard, drive, screen and clean OS install, the engineers were unable to solve the problem. The only solution left to me was to return the unit for an exchange ..... I'm currently unable to travel (covid restriction) so not able to return home and get the swap done. I have not seen any other fixes available, so as far as I know, this problem still exists and there does not seem to be any solution other than getting the unit swapped (but I cant even confirm that will work)

Possible Solution:
my XPS 13 9310 started to experience the battery drain issue when in sleep mode after an update.
The battery would drain from 80% to 0% in 7 hours in sleep mode.
After I made a few adjustment the battery drained from 80% to 72% in 10 hours.
In my case the battery was draining excessively due to network adapter staying connected to network while laptop was in sleep mode, which cause other processes to wake up and use the battery also.
To disable that feature:
1. open Device Manager,
2. then open network adapter drop down list,
3. find your network adapter (Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650). Go ahead and open it.
4. go to advance tab
5. In the property list find and highlight Wake on Magic Packet. In the Value drop down list set the value "disabled"
6. In the property list find and highlight Pattern Match. In the Value drop down list set the value "disabled"
7. Click OK.
For the most users it is recommended to have this features disabled regardless of battery issues.
The second thing I did is I disabled most of the apps from running in the background. this step will also help to extend the battery life when laptop is no pugged in.
1. In the search bar (left bottom corner) type Background Apps and hit enter
2. Look through the list of apps and disable the ones you do not use at all. You still will be able to open and use those apps. For my own reasons I disabled everything except Windows security and Thunderbolt Control Center.
I hope this helps.

Mine is set exactly as what you mentioned but still having battery drain issues. Anyone found a solution to this yet?
I have a 1 year old XPS 13 9300 and had this problem from the start.

I have kept my windows build up to date every time MS release one and it has never solved the issue , I am even running windows 11 now.
The problem is caused by DELL .
That said I didn't notice things getting worse in upgrading the build either .

IDK if this actually fixed anything, but things have been working much better under Windows 11 for my previous sleep issues.

My last interaction will Dell to solve this problem concluded with them offering to replace the device, unfortunately, it's not been possible because I have been unable to return to the country where I purchased the device from, so I'm still living with the issue. I haven't updated to Windows 11 yet, I was planning to in the next few weeks in a last-ditch effort to salvage some usability from this device before it becomes obsolete for my needs.
As for an official fix, I don't think a definitive one has ever been offered. I also think this is the new norm as Microsoft has been pushing Modern Standby. I actually have another newer Dell, an Inspiron (purchased out of desperation) and it too has a habit of waking up whenever it wants. Not as bad as the XPS9570 but certainly worse than things used to be 5+ years ago.
I don't know if this is standard across the industry now but its making the argument for switching to Mac (as much as I dislike the overpriced hardware and general business model) more and more compelling. Between poor hardware, poor power/performance, stupid features like modern standby and nowhere near the level you get with a Mac, its getting hard not to seriously consider the move.

guys thanks for your extensive feedback, its appreciated.
My XPS9570 is on Windows 11 for some time and still has this issue. I'm not a fan of Windows 11 especially its start menu... so i want to downgrade to windows 10
I assume i could go for a pre modern standby version of windows 10? Anyone know which one that would be?
Sorry to hear most of you also still have this issue. I recently purchased a new Dell XPS9510. Good thing is i havent noticed any sleep issues with it.
It is fairly problem free except for some audio issues, where suddenly it would output static instead of normal sound.
Doesn't happen as often anymore and hopefully this can completely be resolved with the help of support. I do think for the high-end price range one should be able to expect a problem free laptop. But seems dell has some quality control issues.
Anyway, would still like to get my XPS9570 to be able to sleep so that its usable in a portable way.
Warranty has expired, perhaps i should also have requested a replacement. Too late now.
Do you guys also have/had the issue where the USB connect/disconnect sound keeps looping?

@mcapps_uca did you upgrade to windows 11 or did you do a completely new installation?
