XPS 17 9700, latest BIOS blocks ThrottleStop
I have constantly used ThrottleStop in 2 Dell laptops (XPS 13 9360 & XPS 17 9700) for many years. It has always allowed for far superior clock speeds on all cores for intensive audio and video tasks.
Sadly, the latest BIOS update from Dell for the XPS 17 9700) blocks ThrottleStop, thus making the XPS 17 9700) now virtually useless for what I need. After 3 years of successfully dealing with heavy workloads via ThrottleStop. Dell and Intel may have overly cautious power management limits, but it is terrible of Dell to actively PROHIBIT users who have decided to take the risk from pushing the systems to their max.
After having the XPS 13 9360 for 6 years constantly overclocked it still works perfectly. The one problem I have is a part of the lid hinge breaking due to a physical design defect. The CPU is still fine. My risk, my reward.
It seems Dell has also prohibited downgrading the BIOS form the latest version. I know, I know, I was stupid to upgrade it. But if I want to do my own thing with the system it is not up to Dell to prohibit me. Please unblock the use of ThrottleStop in the next update. This kind of prohibition if continued means I'll buy anything but Dell next time. I know I'm just a drop in the ocean.

A Dell rep has just told me: " Dell controls all aspects of power and temperature" after removing my irate post about a BIOS upgrade.
So apparently Dell controls everything you might want to ever do to tweak or change the system on your laptop / PC. I guess I didn't read the contract properly when I bought a laptop for €2500.
I replied: "This is an utter nonsense statement. Do you control which websites and what software I use as well? "

I don't know if Throttlestop is stated as illegal software in Dell's mysterious contracts, none of which I've signed as far as I know.

If Dell controls what they say, then I must state that they also are under obligation to warranty my laptop's functionality, with or without a support contract.
