XPS 9310 2-in-1 with WD15 Dock - External Screen Resolution, Network, and other issues
Hi,
I recently got a 9310 2-in-1 for work and planned to use it with my old WD15 dock. I only have one external screen, lan cable, and some USB-A peripherals, so there is not really a need for a newer dock.
However, the dock does not work properly. It does not recognize the lan cable, it limits the external screen resolution to 1600x900 (instead of the desired 1920x1200), and the USB-A Mouse and Keyboard are occasionally laggy if I use several of the USB-A ports on the dock.
The dock works perfectly fine with my private XPS 7390. And my XPS 9310 2-in-1 works fine with a no-name USB-C Multiport adapter, too.
All drivers for the laptop and dock are up to date.
Any suggestions on how to get the WD15 to work properly with the XPS 9310 2-in-1?

@LJJ I just helped someone else here who had a problem running 1920x1200 through a newer WD19 dock even though it worked properly with a travel hub type of device like it seems you also have. They tried HDMI to DVI and DisplayPort to DVI cables with the WD19. In their case, the fix was to use a USB-C to DVI cable because that adapter uses an active signal converter chip to switch the DisplayPort signal being sent over USB-C over to DVI, and that seemed to work around whatever was going on that was preventing that resolution from working with the system/dock electronics. The older WD15 doesn’t have that output, but if you’ve already to achieve 1920x1200 unsuccessfully using both the Mini-DisplayPort output and the HDMI output, there are active Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI/DVI adapters that might work even if you’ve tried a passive Mini-DP to whatever adapter. (I’m not sure exactly what video cabling setups you’ve tried or what would be possible since you didn’t specify that or indicate what inputs your display accepts.)

Thanks, I actually got it to work with a VGA cable... not the preferred option but at least the resolution works.
Cheers, @jphughan - I should have tried different adapters, but since it worked fine with the HDMI to DVI setup with my other laptop, I did not think that was the issue.
I also got the LAN cable to get recognized after a couple of de- and re-installations of the adapter. At least I don't need to invest in an expensive TB dock for now.
