XPS 9500 Blue Screen Random Reboot After Sleep/Hibernation

My Dell XPS 9500 has begun to randomly reboot every time it has been left in sleep or hibernation for a long period of time or overnight.
Usually this gives a reboot with a Blue Screen. It tells that something went wrong and gives the option to recover or restart the PC.

The restart works, but after restarting like this, the charging doesn't work. To resolve this issue it requires an additional shutdown with the charger unplugged and then re-plugged while it is shutdown.

To go through this routine once or multiple times a days is extremely unsatisfactory and makes the computer unreliable for professional work.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
It also seems like it is a widespread issue across many Dell XPS laptops. Please fix this issue!

Hello,

using the same laptop, XPS 9500, having the same exact problem. Every time I shut it down or hibernate it for a long period, I get the error and a bluescreen, after which I have to shut it down again, otherwise it will not charge. This is simply outrageous, give how much this product costs. This has been the case for many months now and Dell simply doesn't acknowledge the problems nor tries to fix it.

We are considering switching to another Corporate Laptop policy because of buggy Dell products.

Has anyone found a solution to this widespread problem? I have the same issue on my XPS8930

For me, the problems appears to be solved. On 1 May I was offered and installed BIOS V1.1.23 and since then I have had no recurrence of the problem. It seems, then, that the error was introduced by BIOS V1.1.22 and cured by the subsequent update.

I will try and see if a BIOS update fixes it for me. Thanks for this update.

Yes! I have the same issue and would think that Dell and Windows 11 would sort this out with an update. There are enough updates, right!? This buggy behavior with the XPS has been there. I am shocked at my own ability to put up with this poor performance. I have just come to expect that 4-5 times a week or sometimes more, my XPS will have a blue screen when I open. Also, the Dell XPS laptop will stay hot. I have run the Dell Support app and the Windows update regularly with hopes that they will figure out how to make their sleep/hibernation actually work with Windows.

I have the same problem and haven't found a solution. I'm curious to see if that BIOS update works for you.

It didn’t fix it. This is such poor engineering. I definitely won’t buy another one. Can you believe I just learned to live with the fact that might or might not start anytime I close the lid and open it a few minutes or hours later. Dell won’t get my business again if they can’t engineer a laptop that can travel without random blue screens. And the battery life is terrible after only 2 years.

I have a similar issue on my 3 month old XPS-17.

Honestly, for a 2200€ Laptop this is unacceptable, especially since this does not seem to be an isolated problem - multiple people reported it here and on Reddit and It's safe to say that even more people have that issue, but just didn't choose to report.

In my case there is a bluescreen very often when the Laptop leaves Hibernation.

Yes it’s like Dell it just letting it be, generation after generation. Definitely makes me not want to buy a Dell again if they see this everywhere and do nothing. It’s like making a refrigerator that constantly stops working 2-3 times a week and you don’t know when it will stop. I’ve sadly learned to live with it and make sure everything is always saved to the cloud. No other choice. Dell is terrible 🤬🤮.

I also have a xps 15 9500 and have this exact same issue. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or any update regarding this issue. I would appreciate if anyone lets me know.

I have the exact same issue with my XPS. I’ve been a Dell fan for years but when I see how they are not interested in solving the problem, I will definitely not buy a Dell again.

XPS 9520: exactly same issue of blue screen right after hibernation. Happens, on average, once per week since 2022.

Noteworthy:

While it was under warranty, I complained a lot, and Dell replaced the motherboard. Clearly, that did not help.

Also, it seems to happen much less frequently if put the laptop to "sleep" instead of hibernation.

No solution as of today.

I have the same issue as described in the initial post. XPS15 9500. Purchased in 2020. I thought it was just mine. Don't suppose there is a known fix to this is there?

@Jobboj

I replaced the battery recently, and it fixed it for about 3 months. Then, the same issue again on weekly bases.
