XPS 15 9550, switch to AHCI
Hi,
I would like to dual-boot Win/Linux my XPS 9550.
This is the one with a 32Go SSD Cache Intel Rapid Tech. with the last Bios (1.7.0)
I've read in many places that I need to switch to AHCI Sata mode to install a Linux distro,
There is a well documented procedure for that :
- planify next boot in safe mode (with msconfig or bcdedit command)
- reboot, go to Bios, switch to AHCI (secure boot is already disabled), reboot
- ln safe mode, revert in msconfig to normal boot, reboot and so on
Despite many attempts, I'm not able to boot in safe mode. I've 3 iteration of the Dell Logo then the PC does a self analysis then boot to repair tool.
Any advice?

Disabling SSD Cache in Windows INtel IRST tool did the trick. My XPS is now dual boot.
Thanks for the info, Franck

But if you're doing this, you'll need to disable the Rapid Storage Acceleration feature inside Windows first before going into Safe Mode, and in AHCI mode you will no longer get the performance benefit of the 32GB cache module. Your spinning hard drive will perform just like a regular spinning drive at that point.

Try opening the Start menu and then holding Shift while you click Restart. That should bring you to an Advanced Startup menu that will allow you to enter Safe mode.
