XPS 9710 Repaste - Thermal pads
Hi,
So I just wanted to do a repaste on my XPS 9710 because I felt like the temps should be better. Anyway, after having lifted the vaporchamber (of course, I followed the XPS 9710 service manual) I basically found a mess, two of the thermal pads were detatched.
Is there a way to get original thermal pads from Dell or at least the thickness?

I figured it out myself and actually managed to bring down the temps (especially GPU temps) significantly.
I have applied 0.5mm thermal pads everywhere except for the switches above the conductors that are labeled with R15, which need 1.0mm pads. I tried 1mm pads everywhere as well but they yielded worse results. With the 0.5mm pads I've been able to bring CPU idle temps down to ~49°C and GPU idle temps down to 39°C from ~50°. Cinebench R23 scores with 11332 points.

If you don’t get any good answers and don’t have dell support warranty, online people who have repasted and repadded used 1mm and 2mm (because there are different height pads for cpu and gpu components). Also, since this laptop can get up to 100 degrees I would use a thermal paste that will withstand that and won’t leak out (you can google it). Something like Gelid extreme paste (it’s affordable too).

That is awesome! Do you mind me asking what your cpu temps were before and what they are now under Cinebench load? My 9710 idles between 40-44 stock generally. I was looking into reposting and padding because my 11900h gets super hot under load. Did the .5 and 1 mm pads help under load?

I can only tell you that the CPU package temps were idling in the lower 60s. Didn't do a stress test. I think it's normal that your CPU gets that hot considering how thin the XPS is.

Sorry I meant temps when you did a cinebench multicore run. It would help me determine if it would help mine. Thanks.

@M120 Can you confirm below is the location you used the 1.0mm pads...
