Possible to Backup over seperate Network
Hello everyone I'm new to the Celerra so bear with me. I am configuring a VNX 7500 with 2 Datamovers to run CIFS and NFS mounts to our marketing department. They plan to store a large amount of image files on this NAS 10 TB to be exact. what I am wondering is how to get the backups to complete in any reasonable amount of time. I was thinking about using the 10 GB Fiber Ethernet module to connect directly to our backup network and perform backups this way. what I am wondering though is through NDMP is there any special settings...or would just a DNS Alias work by pointing our net backup devices to the alias IP...or something to that effect. anyone have any experience with a set up like this? again Im pretty green to NAS so if this is a lousy question I do apologize ahead of time...
i've used to do something similar to what you are trying to do, only i was using TSM. This method of backup is called 3-way NDMP where tape drives are not presented to datamovers themselves but are hanging off your media server and NDMP backups go over regular IP network. What i did was i dedicated one interface on Datamover just for that purpose and assign it an ip address on my backup network. When you setup netbackup , you will need to specify that "backup" ip address/DNS that you assigned to datamover as your source.

Thanks for the links and thanks for the advice as well. I thought that this would be possible. I really appreciate the assistance. and Ill appologize in advance for the 500 other lame questions I will ask now that Im on here :-)
