Dell Blades and OME

I am setting up OME to monitor blades in a MD1000E Chassis, the server names were reporitng correctly, but now they are displaying the iDRAC user names. I am using IPMI and WSMAN.

Can someone help me with displaying the names correctly, these servers are monitored out of band and DNS reverse lookup is not a suitable resolution

thanks

    Hi,

So you are discovering only the iDRAC or the server also? I am assuming since it is IPMI  and WSMAN, you are discovering only the iDRAC. Are you not getting to see the iDRAC name in the device tree? something like idrac-XXXXXXX.

That's correct, I and seeing the iDrac name, at some point it did retrieve the server name, that might have been with SNMP. I want to see the server name so I know what I am looking at. What's the best practise?

    Thanks

Yeah, so the design is such that when you discover the iDRAC, you get to see the iDRAC name and when you discover the server also, then the server name will be reflected in the device tree. Server and iDRAC although belongs to same unit, are different components and can be managed separately. So, separate nomenclature. When we discover the server and RAC, both then the name is of the server in the device tree. This is to bring uniformity that both belong to the same unit.

I hope this solves your query.
