Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

Hi, I got this new Dell computer which comes with this Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio output. I do have a 7.1 stereo system at home and thought that this computer would be perfect for me. However, upon receiving the computer, I am really puzzled by the way to connect these two. On the back of this new computer, there are 6 audio connection holes. I recognize one of them is for microphone, but did not know which is which much beyond that. Other other five audio outputs are in different colors (green, black, pink, etc) and have certain signs with it. I think I have pretty good idea that the green one is for the two front speakers, the black one might be for the subwoofer (not so sure). But what are others? Does anyone have any idea about them? How can I connect them to my stereo? Also obviously the subwoofer does not require a two channel signal, does that mean that I have to use different kind of Stereo Plug/RCA Plug cable? Any help or detailed instructions will be appreciated! Thanks!

The Dell manual details exactly what each connector is.  You should have a copy of the manual already loaded on your PC.  You can also access the on-line manual by clicking on Technical Support at the top of the page.

Hi, were you having any luck making 7.1 work? Somehow, the service manual doesn't seem to be clear to me. Appreciate it if you can post the cable information and how systems are connected.

I found the manual online and it contained a detailed colored version of all connections for the sound system. It was easy after that, since I just matched each to the corresponding hookup in the 7.1 sound system. The thing is, Dell do not ship you this manual with your packaged purchase, you have to find it online using the model code of your computer. I guess that this is the way to save them money and may be some trees as well. Good luck!
