Middle button click with the Dell Premium USB Optical Mouse

Hi,

My society just buy a Dell Dimension 9200 with a Dell Premium USB Optical Mouse.
I install the Mouse Suite for Desktop Computers.

When I click on the middle button, no event is generated (WM_MBUTTONXXX event).
For example, it is not possible to close a page on Mozilla Firefox with a click on the tabulation with the middle button (a click on the wheel).

With this software, it is not possible to configure the click on the wheel, not to confuse with turning it.
It does not appears on the list of buttons. There is the click on the left, on the right, on the two buttons on the side of the mouse, turning the wheel, the left and right click on the wheel.

I remove the software. The middle button is again available but I can not configure the side buttons and the left click and the right click on the wheel.

Normally, the scroll wheel 'click' will put it into the scroll mode.  Some software, such as the Logitech mouse software for the Logitech mice, will allow changing the scroll wheel click to something else.    However, Firefox is not 100% compatible with the mouse functions.  e.g. the cordless Logitech mouse I have, has extra buttons for 'forward' and 'backward'.  They work with Microsoft applications and Internet Explorer 7, but do not work with Firefox.

Hi,

The problem is not only with Firefox.

I wrote a small application in C# that catches the mouse down, mouse up and mouse move events.
With the Suite for Desktop Computers installed, no event are generated when I click with the wheel (the wheel should replace the middle button). Without this software, there is not problem.

It seams that the driver catch the event but does not send it back to the application.

I ran into this seem issue and could not find how to do this in the Mouse Suite.

However, I recently revisited the Mouse suite and just started trying out stuff. To my amazement there is a solution there, although Dell has tried its best to obscure it ;-).

After selecting button #3 (the wheel), it defaults on 'Zoom', what is exactly what you want. If you now select 'Other' and then 'Middle button' under Function, the wheel click acts as a middle button AND still retains its use as a zoom function (up/down = in/out).

So the middle button is still there, but Dell considers the wheel scroll action and wheel click action as a single button; weird if you ask me.

At least this could have been explained better in the Help function.
