Newbie to Storage
Goddday to all!
I work for company who is an EMC Customer - but Iam not part of the Storage team .I am involved with the Host end(Windows) SAN component configuration (Like Powerpath,Navisphere Host agent,HBA firmware/Driver,HBA management software instalaltion..etc)..It is during this time that I got intoriduced to the world of Storage.
I would like to build my carrer in Storage and interested in obtaining certification on EMC Clariion.But It is unlikely that I will get access to the Storage systems to have hands on experince.Would it help me to start a career in storage, If I were to take the certificatin only by reading books and practicing with simulators,.without real world experice?
I understand that ISM certification is open for all - but the Spcialist and Expert level certification are avaialble to only customer and partner.So it is possible for me as an induvidula(neither customer nor partner) to get the certifications?

About the ISM Book you speak of. I purchased the book, and am amazed to see there are no answers given to the exercises. Am I missing something? I understand the student doing their own research and all that, but is there a way to compare the answers I came up with with that of what the authors of the book consider correct?

Hello!
The Information Storage and Management book is used around the globe to teach university students, so we don't publish the answers to end-of-chapter questions. However, this is a great place to pose those questions and discuss the answers.
For some chapters, we have posted questions in the community and asked for responses (links below). If you need feedback, or help with any of the answers in the book, please just post to the community and there are many other EMC Proven Professionals who will be happy to help!

I think you will find that you are still considered a customer as long as your company is a customer. Whether or not your company defines your role as being "storage related" or not is an internal matter. You should talk to your Storage managers and see if they will let you associate your Powerlink account with the company site ID so that you can access the information available to the dedicated Storage guys.
Ignoring all that for a minute, by far the best place I can recommend to start is to get yourself a copy of the "Information Storage & Management" book. Everything else you want to do will build from there, and if nothing else it will show your company what committment you have to learning Storage skills and concepts.
