Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 not working-(probably power failure)

Hello, 

I was working with the dell Inspiron 17R 7720 laptop yesterday and suddenly it shutdown and was not restarting again. I removed the power cable and then tried connecting the charger cable to the laptop, it gave me spark and bnurning smell at the power socket in the laptop. That time I noticed that the my laptop charger light was not detected. I removed the chrager cable and the blue light on the charger cable is turning on. 

Then I inserted the battery and checked my laptop but no luck my laptop didnt start up.

I searched online for this problem, it shows that this a common problem with dell laptops and either the Power jack and some capacitors are to be replaced or the motherboard has to be replaced.

Did anyone faced the same problem? What is the possible solutions for this problem?

If this is the genuine problem DELL laptop, would dell repair it for free of cost or in concession. I dont have a warranty. My warranty is expired in June 2014.
