Problem #1

I have a Dell 3450 Laptop with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS preloaded. I was upgrading the OS to 15.10 when midway the laptop got shut off. Upon restarting again, the laptop directed me to the Dell Recovery suite and I chose to perform a complete restore to the factory image.

The restore completed "successfully" and it asked me to remove the media and perform a reboot - there was no media involved.

Upon rebooting, the laptop again redirects me to the Dell Recovery Page with 3 options -

• Install Complete. Remove Media and Reboot.
• Dell Recovery
• Dell Recovery (Safe Graphics Mode)

The first option directs me to "Error: Invalid EFI File Path"

Upon choosing the second and third option shows an Ubuntu Load Screen (Purple) and then displays a message " Unable to find a medium containing a live file system".

I have tried correcting the file path in BIOS to FS0 and going to EFI and choosing the grub EFI. The problem still persists.

Any help will be appreciated. My laptop is still under warranty.

Problem #2

Using a Ubuntu image downloaded from the Ubuntu website, pops up an error stating that "

This Dell Recovery Media can be used to restore the original factory software. It is recommended you back up all important data before running this tool.

Error msg :"This Recovery Media only functions on Dell and Alienware Systems"

I would also like to understand why Dell prevents the laptop from loading an Ubuntu distribution independently i.e. a clean install? Is there a way to by pass this?

PS - I have not created a recovery disk.
