M15x No Post - caps solid , Num and scroll flashing
Hi Guys,
I really hope someone can help with this. When I turned on my Alienware this morning all the leds came on but I got the following ..-
- No video
- No fans
- keyboard not responding ( so can't boot into BIOS etc
- No Alienhead splash screen
- CAPs lock is solid
- Num and Scroll Locks are flashing constantly
Dell replaced the motherboard about a month and half ago and I reinstalled windows 2 weeks ago other than that I've made no hardware or software changes to the machine.
The spec is as follow:
Intel i3 Proc
6Gb Ram
500Gb HDD
Nvidia GT240m graphics
Troubleshooting I've done so far is -
Reseat both RAM modules and HDD
Tried booting with 1 ram stick at a time
Used a different power cable
Get the same symptoms as above. Any ideas?? What do the flashing Num and scroll locks lights mean??
Thanks Guys,
Robbie

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I tried to log a ticket with support via the support site but it won't let me without installing the System profiler which is a bit pointless since I'm on a different system. So, I emailed a Dell tech support agent directly ( the guy that helped me with the motherboard) so hopefully I have it all sorted soon. I've only 13 days left of my on site warrenty.
Is the Graphics cards or LCD panel a known issue on these machines?? I've owned less than a year as so far its had
* Reinstalled Windows 3 times
* New Motherboard
* New Soundcard
* New speakers
* New bluetooth module
I had a €450 Inspiron 1525 for nearly 2 years and it never gave any trouble like this has.

I have yet to see anyone with an LCD or Video card problem on the M11x (besides the LCD hinge issue)...
I would recommend you extend your warranty, and get them to replace the entire machine. You have had way too many repairs on that machine, and it looks like it is going to keep on breaking.. I am a bit surprised you havent had any issues with the hinges though. But that will probably happen in time....hopefully not though. lol.
The best thing to do right now, is to CALL and speak to someone. Dont email, as nothing really gets done that way. Also, they might not respond in time since you are real close to your warranty expiration. When you call, extend the warranty if you can, and then give the tech support agent the LED codes you are getting, and at that point, push for a replacement machine if you can.
My bet is that the LCD cable probably came loose, but I could be wrong.
Hi ,
Thanks for the reply man I rang Support this morning and they're sending an engineer to replace the LCD and the graphics card. They wouldn't budge on a new machine but in fairness by the end of all this and all the parts that have been replaced I'll practicely have a new machine.
Cheers and thanks for the help,
Robbie

There is a problem with your LCD Display. Maybe the cable came loose since the tech put the laptop back together, and didnt plug it in properly.
Or your LCD has died and needs to be replaced, or the video card has gone bad.
