Go to Solutionram upgrade issues/ overclock failed warning
Trying to replace old 9 gig 1066 ram with 1333hz ram in Aurora (R1 2010 model) with 920 @2.67ghz processor Bios A11, but on boot I get the 4 beeps ram warning and black screen -- put old ram back in and on booting it said previous overclocking failed returning to default settings. Can you suggest which settings to alter to allow the new ram to run. Trying to get at least 16g in but I have 24 to install if it will accept it.
Do you have PDF Service Manual. My Intel x58-chipset with i7-930 runs 1333 ram fine (always has). You must install in perfectly matched DIMMs in sets of 3 (since it's Tri-Channel).

- Click "Mark as Accepted Answer" on any post that answers your question best.I have the PDF and hard copy manual and read it's instructions before I tried to install 6 perfectly matched 4GB DIMM DDR3 1333MHz Registered ECC 2-Rank x4 ram. When that didn't work I just tried 3 of the 4-gig and still the ram beep warning. It seems that because the system had 1066mhz ram before it wants to see 1066 and not the 1333. Just wondering what setting I might make in the bios which is up to date at version A11, Windows 64-bit Ultimate. Is there something that needs to be changed in the bios before it will see the 1333 ram, such as taking it off auto- like I said it sees the 1333Mhz as overclocking for some reason.
Tesla, could you post your bios settings for 1333mhz ram- specifically ratio and timing settings. I've read elsewhere that taking the bios XMP setting off auto before installing the new ram is a correct step. So should the ratio be set to 24 for gig followed by a specific set of timing numbers such as 10-10-10-27?
Just wondering what your settings are for 1333 ram.

I don't think ECC ram works in this Intel-x58 based motherboard with an Intel i7-9xx CPU. At least I've never heard of anyone trying to use that. If I had to guess, I would say that is your problem.

I will try to get a chance to check my BIOS settings, although I do remember that all ram settings are Auto and stock-clocks. No, my 6x2gb DIMMs do not use XMP.
