I want to boot up from a bootable linux live cd. However, when I chose CD-rom in boot options order, my system still boots windows. I'm assuming that the bios is looking to boot from drive D: which is my DVD. Unfortunately, my DVD died a couple yrs ago. My CD-R/RW is on drive E: this drive works but isn't recognized as an option apparently in the boot order. Any ideas on how I can get my computer to see drive E:? I've disabled the DVD in device manager but that doesn't help. I'm considering upgrading my BIOS in hopes an upgrade will offer more boot options. What would be the easiest thing to do? Another thought I've had is to open the pc and disconnect the cable from the DVD and plug it into the CD-R/RW in hopes it would then be recognized.
