Booting System Error....
Hi All. Not sure if this is the correct place to post the question but here it goes. Appreciate any assistance.
I hit the power button on my 14 month old Dimension and the system starts to beep and the following message flashes on the monitor:
"Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus version 1.10 A05"
"Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint (time). For help in respoving this problem, please note this checkpoint and contact Dell Technical Support."

- Thanks for the info Sir. As luck would have it I came home tonight and the thing turned right on without any problems. I did notice the clocks in the house blinking which likely means the power got turned off.....wonder if that had anything to do it it? Thanks again for your advice. I might switch the battery out anyway. Cheers "Mack"
- Hello. I have the same problem. Here ist is: I hit the power button on my 26 month old Dimension and the system starts to beep and the following message flashes on the monitor:"Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus version 1.10 A12""Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint (time). For help in respoving this problem, please note this checkpoint and contact Dell Technical Support." If I power down, the get the same meesage with the word "(aux)" instead of "(time)". If I power down again, it goes back to "(time)" from "(aux)" and on and on...Then I unplugged all hardware and powered back on. The following appeared: "Dell 1. Analog Input. Self Test Feature Check" followd by four boxes (red, green, blue, white). At first making noise, now appears to be hung. Please help....
- DarOne, have you tried replacing the motherboard battery? A failing battery can not only produce time related errors, but also erronenous hardware related error messages. First step is to replace the motherboard battery then connect everything back up to the system and see how it boots up. If the problem continues then check the back of the system to see if the diagnostic lights indicate an error code. If the problem continues then post back here with your Dell model number and a description of any error codes you are receiving.
- Ace501, the purpose of the battery on the motherboard is to retain the date and time settings as well as other hardware information when the power is disconnected from the system. Since you did have a power outage and the computer produced a time related error when it was booted up, this could be a very good indication that the battery is failing. I would definitely replace it.
