Broken start button

Today I pressed the start button on my Dell Dimension XPS D233, and it seems to have broken off whatever mount it normally attaches to. The computer started up okay, but now I can't turn it off because the start button is permanently stuck in the "start" position. Since I have broadband internet, I don't want to leave the computer on 24/7. I can move the button around with a screwdriver or other small prod, but it just kind of flops around and won't pop out in the "off" position. Does anyone know whether this is something I can fix if I open up the case?

Any and all help much appreciated. Thanks!

Do you still have the button? Did you save it? You can open up the case and remove the bezel and on put the start button back on. Look in your Dell book it gives perfect instruction on removing the BEZEL. -Greg

And if you're worried about your cable connection, disconnect the ethernet wire.

And you should be running a firewall anyway...

Why can't I track my UPS package? Per Dell-Chandler - The packages are picked up from Dell by UPSLG, which is owned by UPS. UPSLG doesn't scan the packages. They deliver the packages to UPS' regional hubs where they then will receive the initial scan. During the time from when they are picked up from Dell to the time they are scanned at the UPS regional hub, they are not able to be tracked. As soon as they reach the UPS regional hub they will be scanned in to UPS' system, which, depending on where you live, could take as long as 3 days..

If you can't get that button fixed, just shut down, then power off by turning off your power strip (assuming your computer is plugged into a power strip). That's what I always do.

Thanks to all who responded to my query. Seems I can fix the start button by opening the case and epoxying the button back in place. Appreciate all the help.

My power on/off switch also broke some time ago on my XPS M200s.
I patched it back together using two-part epoxy and it has been okay ever since then.
