Having problem connecting to ISP. It took at least a couple of dozen attempts over six or so hours before this connection was successful.

Can hear modem dialing, but after that just static, and sometimes a recording saying the phone company cannot complete the call as dialed. Don't notice any other problems once online.

My ISP has two local numbers available. Started having connection problems with one of them a couple days ago. Today the second number also stopped working. Friends with the same ISP are having no problem. No noticable problems with our telephone service. We are making and receiving phone calls.

Dimension 4550. XP Home SP-2. Three years old. No prior problems of this type. Avast virus scan finds nothing. No recent changes or modification to system.
