Here's what I did 8 months ago went to www.worldtimeserver.com and downloaded AtomicClock Sync.v.2.2 and keeped perfect time ever since, it's free and I found it to be a good little program,with no vices and from personal experience know it works on W98se, Wme and XP.

Another answer is >>dbl click on the time in the bottom taskbar >> Date and time properties >> clk on Internet Time >> Uncheck the box next to "Automatically Sychronize With Time Server "

Use both of the above.

thanks for the advise olefin , but i want dell to fix it. I have a new computer, i dont know much about them and i dont think buying a computer implies that i want to spend my time fixing things i dont know about.
I download all the critical updates and figure the rest is up to them
what do u think?

You have one the most common problems that is posted on this forum if you read down this page or past pages..

Turn off the internet time synchronization in XP... See instructions here and read more info:

If you use Norton make sure you have all of the updates.

Try this:
Type the following commands from a MS-DOS prompt.
net stop w32time
w32tm /unregister (may need to repeat if you get access denied)
w32tm /register
net start w32time

If none of the above work you may wish to try this.

Hope you have better luck than I did.
My clock GAINS time, I tried all the suggestions that I have seen posted on this forum. None helped!

So I downloaded and installed FREE Rocket Clock:

I setup Rocket Clock to reset my Windows clock every 8 hours... Now my stupid Windows clock is a very smart clock!

I also installed this neat free "Clock Enhancer", TClockEx, allows you to setup the plain Windows clock in the fashion you like, type/style of display, date, colors, etc.

BTW... TClockEx works great with W-XP.

Thanks Bev, but as i mentioned to the other guy, I don't like the fact that buying a computer implies that i want to spend a lot of time fixing things.
I will try shuting off the internet time sync. i understand that it is primerally for dsl/cable connections so it might be that interferring.

I don't think you will not find the answer with Dell. You will find more help on this forum from people like Denny and some of the others.

So far I have tried everything I have seen posted and the only rocket clock will keep mine accurate.

I hate to tell you this, but buying a computer in today's mixed up world implies that you will spend a lot of time fixing it. Sorry, thet is just the way it is. As previous replies to your post have suggested, there are people here that are willing to help you out, but I am afraid that no matter who you buy your computer from, there will be plenty of things that you will need to fix yourself. Please take the suggestions that have been offered to fix the problem. If you call Dell Tech Support they may or may not tell you the same thing (it depends on whether the tech knows the answer), but they certainly won't come to your site to fix the problem. If you need detailed instructions on how to procede, please ask and someone can provide those answers. Welcome to the mixed up world of computers.

I just got a sweet new computer too. It's time goes slow. I timed it and it says 38 seconds = i minute. Im angery; i've messed up my scheudal looking at the wrong time. It doesn't matter if the time synchronize think is on or off, it still goes slow.

Hello, I have a 5 week old Dell 8200 and I have not had any time loss problems but I'm wondering if I should expect some. Does the age of the machine seem to have anything to do with the problem? Thanks for any info. Mike

Good luck with Dell, I had the same problem and tried everything and in the end, gave up. Now use the Atomic clock and fix I mentioned, it may not be the perfect solution, but it works.

well, i got my Dell about 3 weeks ago, and the time problem seemed fine when i got it, but now it's all messed up.
