Dimension E520 CPU upgrade

I have a Dimension E520 with the following

Chipset: North Bridge Intel Broadwater G965

Intel Platform Bridge Creek

Bios version: 2.4.0

Process Technology 7M, 90 nm, CMOS, Cu, Low-K Inter-Layer, High-K Gate, Strained Si

CPU: DualCore Intel Pentium D 805, 2666 MHz (20 x 133)

Can I upgrade to a Core 2 Duo and if so how? I tried once and it wouldn't even boot with the CPU I installed, I think it was probably a 45nm chip.

All the above info comes from Everest.

Thanks!!!

No, you cannot install any Intel processor, only e520 compatible processors.

I have already posted a list of e520 compatible CPU's, the fastest ones, are the Quads.

I've installed the Core2 Duo E4300 and E4400 into Dimension E520, with the latest BIOS the PC recognises them correctly (with an earlier BIOS the PC booted but gave an 'unidentified CPU' error although it still worked) Whether these are officially supported I don't know as they don't appear on the list above but they certainly work perfectly on the 2 machines I fitted them to.
