This is an annoying problem and there isn't a simple answer because it depends on a lot of variables. I solved it by turning off the screen saver period. I also turned off Standby Mode in Start > Settings > Control Panel and the power management Icon. Set standby to NEVER then turn off monitor and turn off HDD to whatever you're comfortable with. There is also a pretty good site here here that has solutions for a lot of annoying problems.
