Maybe a simple fix here: When I try to go to Standby, my Dell refuses to until I do it two or three times. I notice the green light on CD tray comes on, then the amber light on DVD above does the same. Again, it does this two or three times before it finally "catches" and goes to Standby.
But when I turn off computer, it does that right away. I have Windows XP.
