I have a GX270 running Windows XP. I put it on standby the other day, but when I went to use it again there was no signal to the monitor (yellow light) and a ticking noise coming from the tower. I shut off the machine, waited a while and then turned it on again with the same results.

After reading the online user guide, I performed a few tests on the machine. I disconnected the power to the storage devices and noted that the noise continued. Next I disconnected the power to the microprocessor fan. It wasn't until I disconnected the 12V power connector that the ticking stopped. At this point, it occurred to me I ought to check the diagnostic lights.

With everything connected again, the lights showed A blinking from green to yellow in time with the ticking, B solid yellow and C and D green. The user guide says this indicates a memory failure. I removed one of the memory modules and started the machine again. Eventually I established that light A only blinks/ticks when there is a module in DIMM_2 — it doesn't matter which module. With one module installed in DIMM_1, the lights show A and B solid yellow and C and D solid green.

While I have a better idea what the problem is than I did before, I'm no closer to a solution. Any suggestions?
