Tried to install a commercially purchased DVD-ROM driver into my Dim. 8200 box.  Got nothin' but the smell of something that wanted to burn!  I've got 2 existing CD drivers, the primary a CD-RW and the secondary a CD-ROM.  Both are connected on the same [dedicated] IDE strap, and both are jumped as CS. 

 I configured the new device the same, and put it into the [secondary] slot (with the same connections) that the CD-ROM vacated.  Was not good.  Upon re-boot, the 'black screen' asked if I wanted to go to F2 and reconfigure the 'Unknown Secondary Drive'.  I went to F2, didn't have a clue what to do next, and backed out.  Was able to boot into Windows [XP Home] successfully, but neither CD drive showed up on my COMPUTER (Start>Computer) screen.  When the atmosphere became 'highly charged' (read, 'smelled like somethin's gonna light up!) I backed out and replaced the original CD-ROM;  seems the system missed its' little brother, and wouldn't cooperate without it.  Help!!!
