I have a Dimension 4500 w/128 megs memory. Most programs are slow to load especially web pages. use a modem for dial-up that usually runs at about 50 kps. i have no programs running at startup. tray at clock has my virus running(avg virus) and also  auto updates. I read on one post that the hotfix Q811493 could cause problems and to remove it. I tried through control panel ,but there is not an option to remove it ??.

I have been to msconfig and unchecked what i think is the obvious (ones i know what they are).

some posts also recom. running scandisk and drfrag regularly. does that really help.

I am not comfortable getting into services and unchecking and website of "viper" for example is very confusing.

should i see a difference by adding memory say another 256. i have 2 slots, one with the 128 meg card. can I simply add 256 to the other and be OK. assuming that the both cards are the same(2100, non-parity etc.

please help with all questions please
