XPS 710 - High Temperatures
I have had this desktop for two days now and recently installed nTune in order to easily change my LED lights and monitor the temps of my CPU, System, and GPU. I have been noticing that all of these appear to be running extremely hot. I am running a Core 2 Duo (2.13ghz) and 8800 GTX.
The computer has been on for 30 minutes and my temperatures seem to stay at a steady 77F (CPU), 71F (System), 58C (GPU). When I am playing a system intensive game, both the CPU and System will rise to 87F, yet the CPU fan will only kick in with 13% of its speed. I have not yet looked into my GPU temp while inside of a game, but will do that shortly.
It seems that my computer is running dangerously hot, but I also find it strange that the automatic fans will not rise in speed. I am going to try finding a download for the Everest temp monitor and see what kind of numbers it gives me.
Sorry if I seem ignorant, or forgot to include something, most of what I know about computers is what I have learned in the last week...Which isnt all that much.

Blowx and Money,In NVMonitor right click and select setting. Under Appearance change the Display Temperature setting to Celsius. All of the temps that people are comparing and talking about are in Celsius not Fahrenheit. I think you will both find that your machines are operating well within the normal thermal envelope.Dadgum but CHSI is fast today.Regards - MichaelO

LOL....just really really bored! :smileywink: Normally I'd be out mountain biking, but we had some rain and the trails are just too muddy.

77F is not a high temp for a Core2. That's a relatively low temp for any processor, so no need to worry.713

I feel a little stupid, but now it makes much more sense. My CPU and System temps are a steady 20-25C. Although, my GPU still seems very hot at 58C, is that just the nature of running an 8800?463

blwox,Mine is running a little warmer than that right now but hen it has been getting a bit of a workout. 58C is not bad at all. The cards just run hot. And don't feel stupid, at least you posted that it was Fahrenheit so someone could let you know to change it. That's the only way we learn.Money,Wasn't sure whether yours was C or F but was just pointing out how the temps are measured so no one gets scared for their machine.Regards - MichaelO

Yep. If you think that's hot....be glad you didn't go with ATI. The 2900 runs much hotter than 8800 from nvidia. But don't worry, your GPU temp is fine too.
