Clean your screen - turn off your PC. Use a damp soft cloth. Wipe screen carefully, then buff dry with another soft cloth. Then wipe your keyboard and pointer area, avoiding the pointer tip.

Don't upgrade your Norton Antivirus! Buy it new or SystemWorks or Internet Security (each of which contain Antivirus), and take advantage of their FREE after rebate promos that run all the time - just keep your eyes open. When the new Quicken comes out Antivirus will be free, also when TurboTax comes out. Lots of chances to not spend money to upgrade!

Why can't I track my UPS package? Per Dell-Chandler - The packages are picked up from Dell by UPSLG, which is owned by UPS. UPSLG doesn't scan the packages. They deliver the packages to UPS' regional hubs where they then will receive the initial scan. During the time from when they are picked up from Dell to the time they are scanned at the UPS regional hub, they are not able to be tracked. As soon as they reach the UPS regional hub they will be scanned in to UPS' system, which, depending on where you live, could take as long as 3 days..

In Production means that Dell expects to the parts in house in time to make the ship date that they have given you. It does NOT mean that all the parts are in the factory and that your machine is almost ready.

Testing on a laptop means that your machine is enjoying cocktails on the airplane coming over from Malaysia... It will ship soon.

    WRONG!!!

No where does that say water. Use a cleaner approved for cleaning LCD's or CRT monitors. The repair depot uses a product from Chemtronics called "Static Free Plast-N-Glass." Spray it on a lint free cloth then wipe the LCD and keyboard.

Wrong? The instructions in my sig say "use a damp cloth". I guess you could get a cloth damp with orange juice, but water would work better. There is no need to use anything but water and follow the instructions. Damp, not wet.

I've had laptops for over 5 years and have always successfully used this method.

I've never had streaks or other problems. Then again, I don't get soda on my screen.

I take the damp cloth, and carefully wipe the monitor. Then I lightly buff it dry with another soft cloth. Sometimes I still see a mark from the pointer, so I do that again. When done, the monitor is perfectly clean and dust free and stays that way for about a month or so.

I think pizza will leave greasy marks too...

Although water is acceptable and will remove dust, it will leave streaks, will not evaporate, and does not work well at removing substances that may have stuck to the LCD. Why people choose to open a soda so close to their system I will never understand. But, they do and it sprays on the LCD. Water does a poor job of cleaning that off. Dell does not permit techs at the depot to use water so why would you?

I must pipe in on this one too. I've been using laptops for nearly eight years now, including Dells, Compaqs, Toshibas, IBMs and Macintoshes. In all cases, I have used the water method for LCD cleaning, and every time, it worked just fine.

Here is my variant of it:

First, use coffee filter paper. It's soft and lint-free. Get it damp with purified water. We have purified water in our water cooler, and this seems to suffice. Again, been doing this for years on several laptops, including Dells. Avoid tap water for obvious reasons.

When wiping, wipe slowly in straight lines, either up and down or side to side. If there are spots that need work, work those spots. Don't push too hard, again for obvious reasons. Wipe excess water off with another coffee filter paper.

With care, this method works, and works satisfactorily.

I use tap water have had no issues. Diapers are clean, not out of the diaper pail (just to clarify)...

A damp cloth never fails for me. I also clean the keyboard, wristpad, and touchpad while I'm at it. A dozen or so laptops and several years later I've never had any problems.

Licking it clean and drying it with the sleeve of your sunday shirt would probably work just fine as well but why would you not use something made specifically for the job?
